Posted: 15th April 2024

Following an unforgettable five-day musical experience, the Tettenhall College Choir comprising 33 talented pupils spanning from Year 4 to Year 12 have returned from Paris full of memories.

Pupils brought joy and powerful music in three contrasting performance venues. It began with an electrifying performance at the Videopolis stage in Disneyland Park aided by a professional stage crew, where the Choir captivated an audience of over 300 people who were dining in the venue that afternoon. The choir left their mark, showcasing not only their musical ability but their courage and resilience. To end the day, they then had several hours to enjoy the attractions in the theme park including Hyper Space Mountain and Thunder Mountain.

The group also gave an afternoon concert at the Rothschild Foundation Retirement Centre, where the transformative power of music captured the hearts of over 150 residents, echoing with resounding rounds of “Bravo!” The final performance was to a fantastic audience at an outdoor gig in the beautiful Jardin de Luxembourg, south of the Seine.

Beyond the amazing performances, pupils embarked on a cultural exploration, visiting iconic landmarks including the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, the Palais Garnier Opera House, Montmartre and the Jardin de Luxembourg.

Director of Music, Mr Howard conveyed his delight saying “It was an absolute pleasure leading this performance tour with the Tettenhall College Choir. Through appearing before three very contrasting audiences and venues, our talented young singers developed their stage presence, vocal expression and personal confidence in striking ways.

Performing eight pieces plus some pieces from our brave soloists, they learnt how to respond to large audiences formed by the public in Disneyland and in the Jardin de Luxembourg, as well as the resident audience in a large Parisian retirement centre. The Choir also learnt the inner-workings of a professional stage and how to act as a professional group, as they were directed and instructed by the resident stage crew at the Videopolis stage in the Disneyland park.”
