House Crests 2023

The House System

Throughout Tettenhall College, we have a historic house system, with each child from Reception class upwards belonging to one during the whole time they are a member of the school community.

The school is divided into four houses:

Bantock

Named after Alderman Baldwin Bantock, an Old Tettenhallian and a noteworthy benefactor of the College.

Haydon

Named after J H Haydon who was Headmaster from 1891 to 1905.

Nicholson

Named after Sir Arthur Nicholson who was another benefactor.

Pearson

Named after Horace Pearson who was Headmaster from 1928 to 1941.

During the course of each academic year, there will be numerous house events giving all pupils the opportunity to contribute and feel valued. In particular, sporting competitions take place in houses, and each pupil completes with great pride, particularly at our annual whole school sports day. However, there are many other house events involving fundraising and charity initiatives and other pupil led activities. The range of competitions means that everyone can participate.

Pupils earn house points for good effort, good achievement, working particularly effectively (for example demonstrating good interpersonal skills in group work), attendance at an extra-curricular activity or special achievements.

What is particularly special about the house system is that pupils engage in activities with members of their house across all year groups. It provides leadership opportunities for house and team captains and it is wonderful for our youngest pupils to spend time with those in higher year groups, and friendships are often built amongst these, which is another meaningful aspect to life here at Tettenhall College.

“In the senior school the rewards system has been reinvigorated alongside the house system, which is proving popular with the pupils.”
