Busy Week for Choir

Posted: 16th March 2020

On Saturday 7 March, both Preparatory School Choir and Senior School Choir travelled to participate in the Dudley Festival of Music and Dance for the first time in many years. The Choirs sounded fantastic in the College Hall and enjoyed experiencing the standards of other choirs taking part too. The Dudley Festival adjudicator said that we were a “strong, confident ensemble with evenly-matched part singing and a unity of vocal colouring; all the rhythmical detail was very clearly defined, harmonies confidently sung and diction crisp and together. This is an encouraging group of singers!” We were very pleased to come away with two Second Prizes in the categories that we participated in. A superb result for the first Dudley festival we have taken part in for years! A huge well done and thank you to all pupils involved.

On Friday 13 March, our Joint Choir of 45 pupils travelled to Birmingham’s CBSO Centre (the home of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra) to compete in the Music For Youth Regional Festival. The Choir looked impressive, by far the largest ensemble taking part in the afternoon festival. Singing Snow Patrol’s Chasing Cars, Ed Sheeren’s Thinking Out Loud and Michael Jackson’s Man In The Mirror, they sounded superb. The Music Mentors said “(we) are a pop choir that easily blended the formality and precision choral singing with the informality of the repertoire”. The Music department is very proud of the achievements of TC singers so far this year and we look forward to giving vibrant performances around school in the Summer Term.
