The Tettenhall College One-Year International GCSE (iGCSE) Programme is designed for ambitious and motivated international students aged 15–16 who wish to complete up to six full GCSEs in just one academic year. The programme provides an academically rigorous and structured pathway for students seeking accelerated progression within the British education system.
Year 11 is a crucial stage in the British education system, during which students typically study for their GCSEs over two years. The Tettenhall College iGCSE programme offers an intensive alternative, enabling students to study five or six iGCSE subjects in one year, while maintaining academic depth and examination preparation of the highest standard.
Successful completion of the programme allows students to meet the minimum academic requirements for progression to Sixth Form and A Level study. Achieving strong GCSE results alongside A Levels can significantly strengthen university applications, particularly for competitive degree courses such as Medicine.
This programme is especially suited to international students seeking a rigorous academic environment with personalised support from highly experienced subject specialist teachers. It is also ideal for British students returning to the UK education system after studying in an international school. Due to the academic demands of the programme, applicants are required to have a minimum English language level of B2 (or equivalent).
iGCSE Curriculum
Students will study four core subjects (with the Double Award Science providing two iGCSEs) and choose one elective subject as illustrated below. A student completing the one-year iGCSE programme will also have sports classes along with Personal & Social Education on their weekly schedule. Those students who wish to take individual musical instrument or vocal lessons, will be able to include this as an optional extra during the weekly schedule. In order to fully immerse our international students within our mainstream classes, they will also attend a number of additional academic classes, however these are not subjects which will be examined at the end of the year.
