At Tettenhall College, we prepare our pupils for life beyond the classroom, helping them to make decisions about their future careers and further study.
Our sixth form in particular is a close knit community where we are proud to offer excellent teaching alongside dedicated pastoral care and many pupils join us at this stage because of the extra support provided. With their future in mind, our dedicated careers department benefits from close links with employers and higher education and we take into account individual goals and ambitions.
Pupils were recently inspired at a bumper careers skills and workshop day featuring employers and speakers from across the region.
They prepared CVs and were given interview practice, with successful candidates being shortlisted for further stages. Interviews were undertaken by local professionals including business owners, a magistrate, solicitor, retired managing director and human resources manager. The pupils have also benefited from intensive group sessions and one to one work undertaken by Hilary Price, Careers Advisor at the University of Wolverhampton.
The day also featured a workshop on employability run by Fiona Fanning and Ben Davis from Aviva Insurance, a company with the largest graduate recruitment programme in the UK. An Interview Skills was run by OT Kirk Andrews who owns Magical Adventures Drama Company, and there was also a talk on How to get the most out of student Life delivered by Aston University Students’ Union representatives. School Nurse Clare Wagstaff discussed health and welfare at University and there was an ‘Operation X’ crisis management situation set-up by RAF Officer Sgt Lawrence Edwards.
Events like this help our pupils consider their futures and understand what is expected of them. They complement our academic success which in 2015 was another strong year for Tettenhall College exam results, with many pupils achieving top grades in GCSE and A Levels.
