Learning Support

This department co-ordinates a study skills and enrichment programme for all pupils and provides specialist help for those with specific learning difficulties. The School has CReSTeD status.
The School follows a broad and balanced curriculum. Students receiving learning support are fully integrated and included in all aspects of the curriculum. Tettenhall College has an outstanding track record in the fields of Art, Music, Drama and Sport. Therefore, there is a wide range of opportunities for dyslexics in the areas in which they often excel.
Pupils who have learning support requirements are invited to spend a day and during their visit will be assessed by our Co-ordinator of Learning Support. Before we admit a pupil, it is essential that we establish that we are able to meet the needs of the individual, and that the pupil will be able to benefit from specialist tuition and cope with the demands of the mainstream curriculum.
Highly qualified teachers staff the Learning Support department. All members of staff are trained in meeting the needs of dyslexic students and those with specific learning difficulties.
An IEP (Individual Education Plan) is compiled for all pupils who receive learning support and this is reviewed on a regular basis. All students are taught using a multi-sensory approach to maximise learning and potential. IEPs are stored electronically and can be accessed by all members of the teaching staff so that they are aware of individual pupil's strengths and weaknesses.
Tuition is provided in small groups and on a 1:1 basis as necessary. Group work is included within the school fees. However, 1:1 tuition is an extra cost.
Students are encouraged to use Information Technology in all areas of the curriculum, instruction is provided in keyboard skills. Specialist provision is available to promote individual areas of excellence. Study skills are taught and differentiated for all year groups. Informal support is offered outside lessons to help remove some of the barriers to learning.
