The Curriculum

The emphasis in Upper School is on academic achievement.

The progress of our pupils is monitored continuously by Form Teachers and Personal Tutors.

Module tests are held twice a term and school examinations take place at the end of the Summer Term. Full reports are issued twice a year and we send parents details of pupils’ grades following each module.

While we comply with many of the requirements of the National Curriculum, this is only the beginning as we aim to give all our pupils a much wider experience of learning than these narrow prescriptions allow.

Key Stage 3 is completed in the first years of Upper School before pupils move on to Key Stage 4 for GCSE. Pupils are streamed in Years 7 and 8, and “setted” in Year 9 and above.

At GCSE, all pupils take the core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science, ICT and a modern foreign language. They also choose from Art, Business Studies, Drama, Geography, History, Music, Physical Education and an additional modern language.

Fieldwork and visits play a vital part in many subjects and a regular exchange programme is kept with our partner school in Bensheim, Germany.

In July 2005, our pupils visited the island of St Kitts, this encompassed our netball and cricket teams, they gained the opportunity to compete against local schools and clubs, whilst gaining valuable experience. Our Sixth form students went to Budapest  in 2006 whilst in other subject areas visits were made to a variety of local attractions.  In 2007, we are planning a sixth-form visit to Prague and a ski-trip to France with 69 pupils taking part from Years 6 to 10.
