There is a two-form entry into the Lower
School from the Drive. In Years 3 and 4, the majority of the
lessons are taught by a form teacher and the emphasis is on
the sound acquisition of the key skills in Literacy, Numeracy
and Science at Key Stage 2. As children move through Years
5 and 6, more specialist teaching takes place, thus preparing
them for transfer into the Upper School.
Art, Technology, Music and P.E. are included
in every form’s timetable, as are Geography, History,
Religious Studies and Citizenship. Information and Communication
Technology is taught to each form and incorporated in the
work of many subjects.
As with the Drive School parents are kept in touch with their
child’s progress throughout the year, there are both
formal reports and parents' evenings each term.
Assessment is on-going throughout the year. In years four
and six pupils undertake the P.I.P.S assessments. Reading,
Spelling and Numeracy ages are also assessed twice a year.
At the end of the academic year all pupils are evaluated for
their understanding in English, Maths and Science. Results
from these assessments are presented as standardised scores,
thus giving the parents, and indeed the school, an idea of
how each individual compares to the national average based
upon their current age in years and months.
We believe at Tettenhall College that the best form of assessment
is without doubt the day-to-day observations of each teacher
providing valuable insights into the characteristics of each
child.
Throughout the Lower School regular field trips and guest
speakers support the curriculum.
