The Nursery

The Drive School Nursery provides day care facilities for children from their 2nd birthday. Our Nursery is open from 7.30 am until 6.00 pm Monday to Friday throughout the year.

Facilities

Our Nursery is based in a purpose built building, which comprises a large open room with a wet area at one end. It has its own bathroom with toilets, wash hand basins and nappy changing facilities. There is an integral open plan cloakroom area. Three doors lead onto a secure enclosed play area, which has a rubber crumb surface. Adjacent to the Nursery is a Sleep Room that accommodates our younger children who may need a sleep during the day.

Sessions

Nursery attendance is sessional. Parents may choose a combination of sessions, with the minimum attendance being 2 sessions. There are 10 sessions available: 5 mornings and 5 afternoons. There are 25 places available each morning and 15 each afternoon.

Staffing

Our Nursery is well staffed with three full time members of staff who are all qualified to NVQ Level 3. Additionally, there are further full and part time staff who are qualified to NVQ Level 2 or equivalent e.g. certificate in Playgroup Education.

Curriculum

In Nursery we believe that children’s experiences in the earliest years of their lives are critical to their subsequent development. We lead our children through the crucial steps of development using the ‘Birth to Three Matters’ Sure Start Framework.

The Framework takes as its focus the child. It identifies four Aspects.

These four ‘Aspects’ are:

A Strong Child
A Skilful Communicator
A Competent Learner
A Healthy Child

In Nursery learning is a shared process. We believe that children learn most effectively when, with the support of a knowledgeable and trusted adult, they are actively involved and interested.

Staff support the children’s learning through planned and spontaneous play activities. Activities are planned to a weekly theme. Recent themes include ‘Bubbles’, ‘Jelly’, and ‘Shiny Things’.
